I had the pleasure of hosting a special class titled **”Let Your Light Shine with Floral Design”**, a gathering filled with creativity, laughter, and beautiful blooms. The class brought together seven wonderful women—from middle age and beyond—each eager to learn the art of floral design and let their light shine through their unique creations.

We began our session with a deep dive into the **principles of floral design**. From balance and proportion to rhythm and harmony, we explored how thoughtful design can transform simple materials into a work of art.

Next, we discussed the process of selecting flowers even though we used permanent (silk) flowers for this session, the principles apply to fresh florals as well. Choosing the right shape for your arrangement was a key decision, setting the tone and flow of the overall design. Some preferred traditional symmetry while others embraced a more abstract and free-form style.

A crucial component we explored was the **focal point**—the place in your arrangement that immediately draws the eye. We discussed how to emphasize this with **color, flower size, and placement**. Color theory played a central role, with combinations designed to evoke emotion and energy. For example, **red roses** brought passion and love, while **eucalyptus** was a favorite for its association with healing, good energy, and its soft, grounding color.

For the **mechanics** of the design, we used elegant **slender vases** and crafted a simple yet effective **wire grid** at the mouth of the vase. This helped hold the flowers in place, allowing for structure and creativity without the need for floral foam.

As the class came to a close, each participant proudly completed her floral design and took it home. The joy didn’t end there—over the following days, I received delightful photos from the ladies, each showcasing how they’ve placed their arrangements in their homes. Some adorned their dining tables, others brightened a quiet reading nook or entryway. Each arrangement now serves as a personal reminder to reflect, smile, and allow their inner light to shine.

This class wasn’t just about flowers—it was about connection, expression, and beauty that lasts. I’m so grateful for the time we shared and look forward to many more moments of creativity and community.
